Through my journey in the corporate world, I experienced incredible triumphs, but the demanding nature of the corporate environment unveiled its true colours: endless hours, constant pressure, and unrelenting stress. It was far from flawless.
Over the years my career became unduly mundane. I found myself caught in a downward spiral. Prolonged periods of underperformance transformed me into a mere shadow of my ambitious self. Operating under an ever-present cloud of stress, I had neglected the well-being of both my body and mind. Regrettably, my family bore the brunt of these repercussions as well.
My mental health had reached its lowest point, a place I had never been before.
Looking back, I now reflect that during those challenging days, I encountered a significant absence of the essential support, guidance, and professional expertise that could have helped me navigate through those difficult times. There was a distinct lack of individuals who could offer me professional valuable advice or provide me with the necessary tools to regain my footing.
Personally, engaging in a mental and emotional process with my past encounters served as a powerful catalyst and it inspired me to equip myself with the skills, knowledge, education, and tools necessary to be able to offer the support I desperately sought but never received.
As an enthusiastic sportsman and a certified Personal Trainer, I had always been aware of the uplifting effects of physical activity. However, what I failed to fully grasp was the profound connection between exercise, nutrition, and mental health. Motivated by this understanding, I sought validation so embarked on extensive research, uncovering a wealth of informed studies. Yet, my thirst for knowledge remained unquenched – I yearned to delve deeper into dissecting how to harness the transformative power of exercise in cultivating positive mental health.
Embarking on this journey necessitated a significant mindset shift, transforming the perception of exercise and nutrition from solely improving my physical health to unlocking its potential for nurturing my mental well-being as well. It entailed recognising that exercise, coupled with nutrition, had the power to bestow remarkable benefits upon my mind, alongside its established advantages for my body.
“As seekers of knowledge open their hearts and minds, fortune smiles upon them.” and my path crossed with Dan Hancock, a highly esteemed, award-winning Personal Trainer and proprietor of a private gym in Scotland. He had crafted an exceptional and accredited program: Mental Health & Exercise Coach (MHEC), aimed at empowering Personal Trainers to support the mental well-being of their clients. Recognising the potential for this qualification to benefit a broader audience, particularly within the corporate environment, I made the decision to pursue the MHEC coaching certification, expanding my ability to make a positive impact.
